Vivien's Reflection
THROUGH THIS GEOGRAPHICAL INVESTIGATION, I have been able to explore and understand how globalization has shaped the current social media landscape of Singapore and how this has impacted Singaporeans’ views of local newspapers.
Before I embarked on this investigation, I had already known that social media played a huge part in the lives of Singaporeans. However, social media being able to shape the way we view our local newspapers came as a shock to me.
This G.I. has provided me with new insight. It has shown me that social media is not only able to influence the way we view local newspapers, it also provides us with a more efficient platform to spread the news on as within seconds, we are able to spread news from one side of the globe to the other using social media.
After concluding this investigation and reflecting on it, one question that remains in my mind is: What if social media replaces the ‘traditional’ methods of spreading news, such as newspapers, for good?
Though the thought of ‘traditional’ methods of spreading news being replaced by virtual ones saddens me, I have faith that we will be able to cope with the change.
This G.I. has not only allowed me to learn more about social media and its relation to local newspapers, it has also allowed me to pick up new skills such as learning how to carry out research in a more efficient manner by entering more specific keywords or requirements into the search engine, and, learning how to edit and format a website.
Looking back, I feel that this G.I. has been an extremely worthwhile experience as I have managed to go from someone who had no clue about website design to someone who is capable of managing a website.
